India: Living in an Ornate World
7:30pm on Tuesday November 4th at The Three Swans Hotel
At the age of 49 James Wellings retired from stock exchange fund management and swapped his obsession with the FTSE 100 for travel and photography. He has travelled widely from an early age and has now visited 75 countries and found nothing to rival India for colour and cultural complexity. He enjoys photographing people against a variety of colourful, rustic and ornamental backgrounds. India is ideal for this. James had an exhibition “Colours of India” in 2008 at the Piers Feetham Gallery in Fulham and has since made several more visits to India to gather more photographs for this book. James’s introductory talk for his book “INDIA, Living In An Ornate World” will suggest reasons as to why India is so full of colour and ornamentation. This is reflected in all levels of society. A modest dwelling can give as much an indication of this as a palace. It is also prevalent in street life where so many people still live in traditional settings. The photographs in this book aimed to catch views of these scenes.
James will be giving an illustrated talk at The Three Swans Hotel. Tickets are £7 and include a glass of wine. Please call the bookshop on 01488 683480 or pop in to book.
