Nicola Cornick’s award-winning novels are international best-sellers and have been translated into 26 languages. Her latest novel ‘House of Shadows’ is a thrilling time-slip novel that is part mystery thriller and part historical romance which investigates the little known but true life of Elizabeth Stuart, the Winter Queen, and her affair with William Craven, who commissioned Ashdown House to be built in her memory.
The Craven family owned land in Hungerford and, interestingly, one of the descendants of the Craven family was the inspiration for Jane Austen’s character Mr Willoughby in ‘Sense & Sensibility’. The book is based in Ashdown House in Oxfordshire, (a beautiful 17th century hunting lodge, which is now a National Trust Estate) where Nicola volunteers as a guide and local historian.
Come and meet the author over a glass of fizz in the Bookshop. Nicola will be talking about her book, about her research into the Craven family and their influence in the surrounding area, answering questions and signing copies of her books..
