CANCELLEDSunday 23rd October, 3.30pm – 4.30pm
The Hungerford Bookshop
This year the novella has made a comeback. Austen’s ‘Lady Susan’ has been made in to a film, George R.R. Martin has plans for more novellas which are essentially prequels to his hit ‘Game of Thrones’ series, and James Patterson has released ‘Book Shots’ – punchy small books to be devoured quickly. ‘The Vegetarian’ – this year’s International Booker winner – is a slim, intriguing piece (or pieces) of fiction.
‘The Novella Project’ is a scheme developed by local publishers, Holland House, that provides talented but relatively unknown new authors a chance to make it in the increasingly competitive literary industry. As a result of this scheme five novellas will be published this October.
Three of the authors – Carly Schabowski, Kasim, and Connor Wray – will be performing extracts from their work in the cosy surroundings of the bookshop; and Robert Peett and Natasha Robson, who developed the project, will talk about the initiative.
Are you a writer? Then The Novella Project is calling for submissions for 2017. So come along if you enjoy good fiction, are interested in getting your work published, or would like to enquire about an internship. Space is limited so early booking advised.
